Middle School at Berkeley Hall: Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders

At Berkeley Hall, our middle school program (Grades 6-8) is more than just an academic experience—it’s a transformative journey that prepares students to lead with confidence, integrity, and purpose. As the oldest students on campus, our middle schoolers are the leaders and role models that younger students admire and aspire to emulate. They step into leadership roles, embrace challenges, and seize opportunities to grow, both inside and outside the classroom.

Leadership in Action

Our middle school students are at the heart of Berkeley Hall’s vibrant community. They serve as officers in the Student Council, take on leading roles in theatrical and musical productions, and participate in our mock trial program at the Los Angeles Superior Court. These experiences not only build leadership skills but also foster teamwork, public speaking, and critical thinking.

Beyond the campus, students embark on outdoor education trips to the High Sierra, the Pali Institute, and CIMI (Catalina Island Marine Institute). They also enjoy day trips to Mountain High for skiing and snowboarding, as well as visits to The Museum of Tolerance and other enriching destinations. These experiential learning opportunities broaden their horizons, deepen their understanding of the world, and create lasting memories.

A Culture of Confidence and Responsibility

At Berkeley Hall, we believe that leadership is cultivated through responsibility and self-confidence. Our middle schoolers are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and their roles within the school community. They are celebrated for their achievements, whether on the stage, the playing field, or in the classroom.

As the oldest students on campus, they understand the importance of setting an example for their younger peers. This sense of responsibility helps them develop empathy, maturity, and a strong moral compass—qualities that will serve them well in high school and beyond.

A Rigorous, Student-Centered Education

Our middle school program is designed to challenge and inspire. Through interdisciplinary teaching, personalized learning plans, and cooperative group work, students engage deeply with their education. Our rigorous academic program is complemented by a strong character education curriculum, ensuring that students grow not only as scholars but also as individuals of integrity and compassion.

Our dedicated teachers are experts in working with “tweens” and early teenagers. They provide the support, guidance, and encouragement students need to navigate this pivotal stage of life. With small class sizes and a nurturing environment, every student is seen, heard, and valued.

Prepared for Success in High School and Beyond

When Berkeley Hall graduates move on to high school, they are fully prepared to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. They leave us with the skills, confidence, and leadership experience needed to thrive in competitive high school environments and beyond.

From Our Parents:

“At other schools, being a middle schooler is like being a middle child—too often overlooked. Here, our middle schoolers are celebrated. They are stars in the play, champions on the playing fields, and leaders in student government.”

“When is the better time to decide where your child is going to go to high school—when he or she is just entering kindergarten, or as they are just finishing middle school, and know what kind of place will be right for them? You wouldn’t decide the car to buy for your 5-year-old. You’d wait until they are 16.”
